Vancouver Sun App Reviews

Too slow or crashes

When I first used this app, it was great; worked as should be. But recently, not sure if due to updates, it crawls like a turtle, or just plain crashes. Un-installed.

Just plain horrible

The title says it all. Slow load times, crashes when it feels like it. Its like theyre not even trying to make an app that works, perhaps because Postmedia is pretty much bankrupt.

Usable but issues

Reading news is clean and straightforward. But: -News stories need dates -Share option needs "copy url" or more options -App freezes when updating news, which happens frequently -Loading updated stories is slow

Scared

I havent updated to the latest version and I am scared to go it. The app is ok right now but the reports of slow loading and buggy makes me think I should stick with the older version while I can.

No dates on stories

I will never subscribe to an online paper that does not give the date of publication for each item.

Pretty good, but please add dates

I enjoy reading this app. Its stable, reasonably well organized, and comprehensive. But without dates on the articles, its impossible to tell (other than from memory) whether a story is current.

Update Hangs Up

Latest update begins but never completes.

Still awaiting screen size updates

The plus size iPhone is two generations old and this app has not yet optimized its app to that screen size. I use an iPhone 6s Plus now, so Ive been patiently waiting for that. I last had an iPhone 6 Plus and next Ill have an iPhone 7 Plus. Does The Vancouver Sun need me to re-develop the app for them? I certainly could do that! PS: Im waiting for iPad Pro optimization too ;)

iPhone sizes

How can this app still not support larger iPhone sizes? Its awful to use.

Vancouver a Digital Hub - not!

Really surprised how bad this app is. Isnt Vancouver one of the most advanced tech hubs in N America? This app had garbled text broken links. Not worth it!

Cant see all sections in 6S

Just upgraded to an iPhone 6S from 6 and I cannot access all sections anymore. Homes section is gone.

Terrible update

New updated app is even worse than the sorry one before. Top Stories heading is gone which had some international news. Before this update there was very limited content for World and National news and there is even less now.

What an update!

So much better. Between this update and the site, I think Ill start using this far more for local news now. Only thing left is to use the massive Share menu/capabilities in iOS.

Lipstick on a pig

Changing fonts doesnt equal great newspaper. Same old tired content.

Best update ever

Now they just need to add more sharing options like , skype, facebook, instagram etc then it be perfect

New update eliminated content

Not impressed with new update. The weekly sections have disappeared. The screenshot provided in the description of the app is not what I see when opening it. New device, updated app. ?!?!

Garbage Update

Looks arent everything. Poorly designed and executed. Cant wait for The Province update, bet itll look the same.

No reader comments

To me, one of the best attributes of reading a newspaper online is access to the reader comments. Why did they drop them when they introduced this app makeover?

This App Will Kill The Vancouver Sun

If newspapers are going to survive the transition from print to electronic media, it is imperative that they create a compelling, easy to use, reliable app. The Vancouver Sun app falls well short of what is needed for survival. I have been a print subscriber for years. I have had and tried sporadically to use this app for a few years. I have now cut the print subscription back to Fridays and Sundays and need to get this app usable. So far I have failed, despite the fact that I work on computers professionally. The first and most significant problem is logging in. There is no indication of whether or not I am logged in. Most news apps will provide this and a little social bonding by saying something like "good morning joe, here is your news for today". I have hunted all through the app looking for a place to login. No luck. The only way to login is to wait for 10 articles to expire and then be prompted. If I know the account password has changed, I want to login now and not wait for the app to balk. When I am finally prompted, it wants me to use my Press+ account. My wife manages the subscription, so I ask her for the login name and password. She knows the login name, but has forgotten the password. So we reset the password. She is now living on her 10 article limit and I still dont have a way to enter the new password. Oh you want to change the password to something that can be remembered? Sorry, there is no way to do that. You want to use the online help to figure these problems out. Sorry, the online help is trivially obvious information masquerading as a FAQ (as if this stuff is _ever_ asked). The above difficulties have been so annoying I have considered deleting the app. Instead I just use a less troublesome news web site. Suppose however you persevere. I started the app up for the first time in a couple of weeks. It says it has updated and is showing todays date on the top. Unfortunately all of the displayed articles are the same ones from the last time I used the app. Two week old news. Great. The articles are not dated, so unless you have been keeping track of the news on say a competitors web site, you might not realize you are reading old news. Finally to add that last bit of insult to injury, I go looking for the comics. As everybody knows, except the Vancouver Sun apparently, the comics are the single most important part of the newspaper. After you have finished reading the normally depressing news, you need that little lift to remind yourself that maybe the human race might beat the odds and survive. Sorry, no comics. I guess the human race and the Vancouver Sun are not going to survive after all.

Formerly good digital newspaper turns bad.

The Vancouver Sun killed their Top Stories front page section and presumably their Editorial capability. They eliminated several other good features at the same time, about April 1, 2016 in their "new look". These changes have ruined the newspaper. If these losses arent reversed I will cancel my subscription of 40 years of The Sun.
